Working primarily in ink, he creates character-driven artwork that balances dark undertones with a tongue-in-cheek sense of humour. His pieces often explore odd, playful, and slightly unsettling worlds, inviting viewers to find charm in the shadows and wit in the details.

Jason is a notable printmaker known for blending 19th-century Romanticism and heavy metal influences in his work. His pieces juxtapose Gothic imagery with commentary on human behaviour. He graduated with honours in engraving from University of Canterbury (1985) and taught at Otago and Canterbury schools of art. His annual exhibitions feature lithographs, paintings, and more. His art is held in collections including Te Papa Tongarewa and Christchurch Art Gallery.

These pieces are enchanting narratives themselves, infused with an enigmatic and mischievous magic that defies explanation.

Marie is a Lyttelton based artist. Since graduating from the University of Canterbury School of Fine Arts with BFA and MFA degrees in 2008 she has worked with dealer galleries in Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch to develop work for solo exhibitions and public exhibitions. Her paintings have been acquired by art collections such as Te Puna O Waiwhetu Christchurch Art Gallery and Fletcher Trust.

Known for his tiny, often circular or oval canvases, Dean takes the traditional idea of the picturesque landscape and uses it like a stage set for imagery that is surreal, mystical and spiritual. 

 

Through the messenger birds, props and rocky biomorphic figures, aspects of Lyttelton Harbour are observed and alluded to. Works are small and jewel-like, something to peer into and wonder at, something to search for small clues and hidden meanings.

 

Dean has work in public collections throughout NZ and is found written up in many Art publications. He lives and paints off-grid at Māori Gardens, Governor’s Bay.

Simon’s work pays tribute to nature's beauty and the urgency of its preservation. He incorporates industrial elements, reshaping steel into themes like skeletal armatures, nests, and wings. 

 

His creations mirror his passion for nature's restoring force. His sculptures serve as guardians of the land, drawing attention to the environment as they gracefully merge with the landscape.

 

The post is made from salvaged wood from the Governors Bay jetty. Simon lives in Cass Bay.

Controlled Remote Viewing as a creative tool, he develops spontaneous marks into symbolic forms that bridge observation and intuition. He has exhibited in NZ and the UK for over 30 years.

‘Sing together’ won the 2025 NZ Painting and Printmaking Award.

Ben is a contemporary printmaker represented by galleries across Aotearoa. A graduate of Ara School of Art and Design (2005) and former assistant to master printmaker Marian Maguire, he won the 2025 NZ Painting and Printmaking Award with ‘Sing together’. Working in drypoint and relief, his practice explores political themes around Aotearoa’s flora, fauna, and fragile ecosystems, critiquing Western cultural assumptions and confronting us with the precarious future of native species.

Michael Phillip crafts his visions in his Cass Bay studio. Inspired by a deep respect for natural elements, Mick’s artistry blends his life’s experiences with his enduring creativity, capturing forms that evoke themes of solitude, resilience, and harmony with the Earth. 

 

Mick’s journey into art evolved over years of honing skills from diverse paths, eventually shaping his passion for sculpture. Working with repurposed copper, he hand-cuts each piece, layering and shaping it with careful precision. Born through the transformative power of fire and metal, each piece carries a story.

Gill has been involved in the Peninsula Art Auction since its inception and was also instrumental in organising the much loved Sculpture on the Peninsula.

 

Most mornings Gill is woken early by her dog, Charlie, for a walk along the shoreline track between Lyttelton and Cass Bay. Surrounded by towering trees and shifting plantings, these walks provide a grounding start to her day and inspire her creative practice. Her current series of paintings pays tribute to this world and the environment that enriches her life, honouring the beauty of plants, trees, and foliage while also questioning how long it will endure.

Glen’s background in furniture design and his passion for modern NZ architecture have led him into the world of abstract creativity. 

 

Working with enamel paints on smooth plywood panels, he explores fine lines, bold shapes, depth, and colour to spark curiosity and engage viewers. A lifelong Christchurch resident, he has lived mainly in Lyttelton and nearby areas. His studio and workshop are in Redcliffs, and his work is exhibited at the LEStrange Gallery in Sumner.

Callum was born 1973 in Wellington, and raised in Hawkes Bay. His home and studio are based in Governors Bay. He holds a MFA from the University of Canterbury, and is currently the Head of Visual Art Faculty at St Margaret’s College in Christchurch.

Fergus, a self-taught artist, started his artistic journey after a lengthy career as a butcher. 

 

His meticulous paintings depict floral arrangements framed by robust steel structures, delving into the dynamics of viewer interaction with art and the interplay of space in a room. 

 

He explores the balance of opposites, blending elements of masculinity and femininity in his work. He has started crafting metal frames through welding and shaping, a striking contrast to his delicate brushwork in his paintings.
