Do you have to pay to see the artworks?
You can come to check out all of the artworks over the weekend 28-29 October, 10am-4pm at Lyttelton Primary School for a gold coin donation.

Are all the artworks for sale?

Yes! All of the artworks at the exhibition are for sale. The majority of the works will be sold through a Silent Auction that anybody can silent bid on during the weekend. Around 20 works are selected to be auctioned at the live auction at the Gala Night, 29th October, 7pm, tickets are available for this event at peninsula-art.co.nz and this also gives you the opportunity to place last bids on any silent auction pieces.

What is a Silent Auction?
A silent auction is a fundraising event where participants bid on artworks by writing down their offers on sheets of paper (bid sheets). Unlike traditional auctions, there is no live auctioneer; bids are made silently. This format allows for a more relaxed and informal atmosphere, making it easier for people to participate and bid on items of interest. The highest bid at the end of the event, in our case after the Live Auction at the Gala Night, wins the artwork.

Who will be the auctioneer for the Live Auction at the Gala Night?
We are delighted to announce Shay Horay as our auctioneer for our 2023 auction. With a rich background in the entertainment industry spanning 25 years, Shay has excelled as an actor and personality on stage, street, radio, film, and television, both nationally and internationally. Renowned for his impeccable comic timing, Shay ensures that the auction will be a highly entertaining experience!

What if I want to bid in the Live Auction but can’t make it to the Gala Evening?
No worries! You can participate in the Live Auction by a phone bid, call Taff 021 154 8729 to discuss this option.

We will be releasing a list of the artworks that will be included in our Live Auction on our website late evening on Thursday 26th October following selection by our curation team

Can any artist enter the Peninsula Art Auction?
To participate in the auction, artists must send an application and state their connection to the Banks Peninsula.  Unfortunately, it is now too late to enter this year's event but look out in late 2024 for notification of our exhibition event anticipated for 2025.
